Bio:The world is a dangerous place, not because of those who do evil, but because of those who look on and do nothing. - Albert Einstein

You're free to friendslist me or pass over my journal. I do tend to be passionate about the environment, politics, health, and the effects of consumer culture, and I'm a happier person around like people, and I especially admire those trying to do good.

No drama, please, and I'll try my best to rein myself in, too.

One cannot avoid change, but one can avoid changing oneself for the worse. - stonepeace

INTP - "Architect". Greatest precision in thought and language. Can readily discern contradictions and inconsistencies. The world exists primarily to be understood. 3.3% of total population.

Bush est un imbécile. Je n'ai pas voté pour lui.

"Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to do the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is tell them they are being attacked, and denounce the peacemakers for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. It works the same in any country." — Herman Goering, from the Nuremberg trials

"If this were a dictatorship, it would be a heck of a lot easier, just so long as I'm the Dictator."
—George W. Bush Jr.

"See, in my line of work you got to keep repeating things over and over and over again for the truth to sink in, to kind of catapult the propaganda." — George W. Bush Jr., May 25th, 2005.

"Unthinking respect for authority is the greatest enemy of truth." - Albert Einstein

"We need not stride resolutely towards catastrophe, merely because those are the marching orders." - Noam Chomsky

"Our president is a Christian? So was Adolf Hitler." - Kurt Vonnegut

"We have become a Nazi monster in the eyes of the whole world--a nation of bullies and bastards who would rather kill than live peacefully. We are not just Whores for power and oil, but killer whores with hate and fear in our hearts. We are human scum, and that is how history will judge us...No redeeming social value. Just whores. Get out of our way, or we'll kill you.

Who *does* vote for these dishonest shitheads? Who among us can be happy and proud of having this innocent blood on our hands? Who are these swine? These flag-sucking half-wits who get fleeced and fooled by stupid rich kids like George Bush?

They are the same ones who wanted to have Muhammad Ali locked up for refusing to kill gooks. They speak for all that is cruel and stupid and vicious in the American character. They are the racists and hate mongers among us--they are the Ku Klux Klan. I piss down the throats of these Nazis. And I am too old to worry about whether they like it or not. Fuck them." - Hunter S. Thompson

".... the world has, and i write this hopefully without any hyperbole, become an Orwellian place. I guess that we had all assumed that an Orwellian world would be one wherein dissent wasn't tolerated? Little did we know that in our Orwellian world, dissent is tolerated and ignored. The creepiest aspects of our faux-Orwellian world are:

"A-the media's ability to disregard important issues (genocide in the Sudan, looming environmental crises, widespread voter fraud in the 2004 elections, etc) while focusing on irrelevant non-issues (Nick and Jessica, David Beckham's salary and indiscretions, Janet Jackson's nipple, etc) and...

"B-the public's complicity in this process.(i.e- more americans watched American Idol than the presidential debates). It's almost as if we've collectively written a new cultural constitution: 'We the people want fluff. We want light news about easy subjects. We want friendly politics with simple cliches. We want fast graphics. We want platitudes. We want to be stroked and reassured.' I know, i'm not the first person to write about this. but it is generally disheartening to realize that we live in an age where people have access to so much information but yet choose willful ignorance.
Or willfully choose ignorance.
Either one. They're both depressing." - Richard Melville Hall (Moby)

"Fascism should more appropriately be called Corporatism because it is a merger of state and corporate power" - Benito Mussolini

"Through clever and constant application of propaganda, people can be made to see paradise as hell, and also the other way round, to consider the most wretched sort of life as paradise" - Adolf Hitler

"War is fear cloaked in courage." - General William Westmoreland

Galbraith's Law: Faced with the choice between changing one's mind and proving that there is no need to do so, almost everyone gets busy on the proof.

"Let everyone sweep in front of his own door and the whole world will be clean." - Johann Wolfgang Von Goethe

"The nonviolent approach does not immediately change the heart of the oppressor, it first does something to the hearts and souls of those committed to it. It gives them a new self-respect; It calls up resources of strength and courage that they did not know they had." - Martin Luther King, Jr.

"We will remember not the words of our enemies but the silence of our friends." -Martin Luther King, Jr.

"Whatever the costs of our libraries, the price is cheap compared to that of an ignorant nation." - Walter Cronkite

"I wanted to change the world. But I have found that the only thing one can be sure of changing is oneself." - Aldous Huxley

"At a time when opportunism is everything, when hope seems lost, when everything boils down to a cynical business deal, we must find the courage to dream. To reclaim romance. The romance of believing in justice, in freedom, in dignity. For everybody. We have to make common cause, and to do this we need to understand how this big old machine works - who it works for and who it works against." — Arundhati Roy

"Carefully watch your thoughts, for they become your words. Manage and watch your words, for they will become your actions. Consider and judge your actions, for they have become your habits. Acknowledge and watch your habits, for they shall become your values. Understand and embrace your values, for they become your destiny." - Mahatma Ghandi

"It wasn't, 'We the conglomerates.' It wasn't, 'We the corporations.' It was, 'We the people.'" - Al Gore

Always take complicated news issues from the mainstream news media with a pinch of salt:
"A stupid man's report of what a clever man says can never be accurate, because he unconsciously translates what he hears into something he can understand." - Bertrand Russell

Ten Times One Is Ten (1870) by Edward Everett Hale
I am only one,
But still I am one.
I cannot do everything,
But still I can do something;
And because I cannot do everything
I will not refuse to do the something that I can do.
