Extreme relief and annoyance
Caribou Coffee had my bag for more than a week. I must have spoken to at least 3 different people there at two different times over the past week, people who checked their Lost and Found for my bag and then told me they didn't see anything. They even had my name and number I'd given to them. With description of lost bag. And then I'd gone there again and put a nice bright reward notice on their board, fergossakes. Waved it in front of their faces, told them I was still looking for my bag and could I put this thing up.

Jason decided to go back over there again today and ask for the third time, and lo and behold, the bag was suddenly with them. It had been all this time.

I am extremely happy to get my stuff back. Everything was intact. So why do I still want to slap someone? I'm justified, aren't I? It's not like I hadn't asked them more than once. I just called the police and embassy and the people there had the same question: why hadn't the coffee place told me??

Thanks for all the well wishes from everyone. They helped.

Yay! The whole experience sounded almost as frustrating as dealing with the embassy staff in Singapore.

did you check all of your papers? it's possible that it took 'them' three weeks because 'they' had to reprint everything, after making the subtle changes that will allow them, at some later date, to frame you for the murder of their 'enemies'.

does your passport contain mysterious stamps from faraway places whose names you cannot spell? have your gift cards from 'bed, bath, and beyond' been replaced with coupons from gun shows in Upper Michigan? have photographs of tall buildings replaced your crepe-bordered photos of sleeping hamsters?

'Caribou Coffee' is a well-known front for the Quebec Secret Service, and I'm sorry to say, but you do fit the profile of a Canadian sympathizer.

I can just see the three ditzes saying "No, i don't remember a red bag," and your husband going to them to ask, and one of the ditzes replying, "Oh, you mean a red bag! We've had that thing for a week!"

Just oh...my...god. I'm happy you've got your stuff back, but...

Oh, a *bag*! I thought you said "hag". Yeah.

hooray! (I like that: "No red bag here.... Oh, a _red_ bag." Good one.

As for cosm boy, I think he's embroiled in this entire conspiracy, hiring the coffee villains behind the counter to spy on what you may be painting next--the bag was just a bonus.

I'm so glad you got everything back. :)

And yes. Slap anyone you please. Slap away. Well, except me. I'm blameless as always.

Thank goodness, and GRRRRRR! I've been so worried. Hormones, perhaps, but I also really like you from our brief meeting at WisCon and am so, so so glad that you don't have to replace this stuff.

In this case, I'm relieved about the jaw-dropping incompetence just because it means no one stole your stuff.
