A late-night walk down memory lane
...resulted in a half-hour's worth of utter hilarity and side stitches. You hafta laugh, otherwise you're going to cry your eyes out, Dragonlance fans.

(I don't post fantasy or entertainment related posts often, but this one, I have to, I really do.)

January 2008 is scheduled release date for the animated movie of Dragons of Autumn Twilight. (If the word "animated" doesn't send a chill up your spine, it should.)

Music Video/Sneak Peek:

The music's not bad. Background stills not spectacular, but still not bad. Try to ignore the somewhat dated-looking intro screen.

...And then it descended into TEH SUCK! Lucy Lawless could never have saved this thing.

The Official Trailer, apparently first shown at GenCon 2007:

I had to watch it twice to comprehend the badness. The best to hope for is Eye of Argon goodbadness to save this thing from the levels of hell below that reached by the D&D movie. My favorite comment somewhere among the 700 comments was something like "This looks like 3 kinds of ass".

Solace (hurhur) thereafter could only be found in old fan vids/trailers.

From Turkish fans:

And another one:

And the German fans beat them ALL: (If you don't watch any of the others, watch this one.)

Really got to get to bed now, but it may be a struggle with this bad case of giggles. I think my brain still can't comprehend that level of suck...

i saw the original trailer while i was in cancun.

i always dreamed of seeing a DL movie, but logic always said it was a bad idea.

when they announced a movie, i said "oh uh".

when i discovered it was going to be animated, i thought "that's an even worse idea".

then i found out it's being released straight to video and that made me realize that all my fears and concerns were going to be true.

then i saw the trailer and became ashamed that i even consider myself part of the fan base.

DLU did better animations and creations than that piece of junk even can hope to imagine. i don't think i'll even buy the movie for shits and giggles "just to own it". i'll probably download it online so i don't waste my money.

i didn't have a lot of hope for it to be good, but boy did they *ever* destroy even the tiniest shred i once harboured. :/

Yeah, that is definitely showing itself to be too bad to watch, even for shits and giggles. On the bright side, I think the movie suckiness may inspire more creative efforts from fans if only so eyes and memories can be scrubbed of the travesty.

Y'know how with some films, when they know they're bad, they don't let any reviewers see advanced screenings because they know it'll only hurt the box office take?

So why on earth did they release this trailer?

I remember a few of the books fondly.

Alex.

I have no idea. I loved some of the books too. (And then fell out of love after subsequent developments in the series.)

I'm just thrilled to have friends in NZ who remember Eye of Argon!
