Squeak

Squeak Sleeping

(Squeak's weird sleeping positions are hard to photograph, being that they often happen in the plastic tubing...) He's horribly cute nonetheless. My kind cousin will be taking care of him when we're in Hong Kong from Friday (tomorrow) to next Tuesday.

Squeak is adorable! He's a tiny, tiny ball of floof. And looking at your photostream, are okras hard to grow? I've always wanted to try growing them. Do you have them in a pot?

Okra is extremely easy, but some patience is required in the beginning waiting for the plant to mature. I've got all my plants in pots (a big one, for the okra) and the okra has been the most productive food plant so far. The okra flowers, er, do need some help getting fertilized so that they produce fruit (ie. willingness to have "sex" with flowers is required). ;) Oh, and okra plants can have prickly tiny spines, but they're easy to avoid and not that painful.

I remember this willingness to have sex with flowers from the time we planted zucchinis. Sadly, while the zucchinis did produce after artificial insemination, the fruits were too small to be worth the trouble. Prickly tiny spines aren't too terrible to avoid, I think. Do you mean like pumpkins? Pumpkin vines can really sandpaper my hand when I go in to pluck shoots and flowers (when the flowers all come out as boys, they might as well be devoured).

Also! I really miss hamster fertilizer. It was awesome how well plants grew on them. First, I need to move to a country where hamsters are even allowed to be kept, though.

I've never handled pumpkin vines, but I don't think okra spines are quite the same. They're nearly microscopic, and what you have is a feeling that your skin's been pricked by sparse and tiny needles. On callused hands, you can just wash them off and forget them, but on fore arms, it can leave bumps like those gotten from ingrown hair. They go away after a week or so.

Aaaawwwwwwwwww!

Sorry. I just had to.

At least he's not like our cat. His preferred sleeping position is on top of our heads while we're asleep.
